  11.      NASA astronaut Anthony England will tell more than 200 
  12.  
  13. teachers how the U.S. space station can help classroom 
  14.  
  15. education at a day-long meeting on "Communications in 
  16.  
  17. Education" at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on May 2l. 
  18.  
  19.      England will be one of a series of experts in advanced 
  20.  
  21. communications technology to appear at the meeting.  Experts 
  22.  
  23. from the California Department of Education will explain 
  24.  
  25. telecommunications, school emergency communications, remotely 
  26.  
  27. controlled communications, and how ham radio operators can be 
  28.  
  29. used by teachers to bring communications technology into the 
  30.  
  31. classroom. 
  32.  
  33.      The teachers will also hear how they can get funding for 
  34.  
  35. communications equipment in the classroom. 
  36.  
  37.      Dr. Gil Yanow of JPL said that there are a variety of 
  38.  
  39. ways teachers can use radio and other communications media as 
  40.  
  41. classroom aids.  "What better way for students to study 
  42.  
  43. Alaska than to talk by radio to people in Alaska?  A class 
  44.  
  45. can study civics by talking, via radio, to its elected 
  46.  
  47. representatives in Washington, D.C." 
  48.  
  49.      JPL's Amateur Radio Club will demonstrate a variety of 
  50.  
  51. communications technologies to the teachers.  And fifth- and 
  52.  
  53. sixth-grade students from Glenoaks Elementary School and 
  54. îLuther Burbank Elementary School will show how they use 
  55.  
  56. satellite communications to talk to "air pals" in Argentina, 
  57.  
  58. Australia and Israel. 
  59.  
  60.      The day-long program is sponsored by Yaesu U.S.A., a 
  61.  
  62. communications company, and JPL's Amateur Radio Club.
